June 1, 2019 Trails Day Hike
EXPLORE FOWLER-GRINDSTONE PRESERVE, A DEEP GREEN BEAUTY There will be an early Summer hike within the woods of Fowler-Grindstone Preserve. The date is June 1, 2019, Saturday morning, at 10:00 am. Explore this 75-acre forest with its rows of ancient stone walls, 2 enormous glacial erratics (one of them has a stairway to the top), the confluence of Pendleton Hill and Hetchel Swamp Brooks, both of which are now part of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Amendment, narrow foot paths winding through deep forests, rocky outcroppings, and an old logging road. Tim Crandall and Bill Hixson will be the leaders for the approximate 2 mile walk. Meet at Grindstone Hill Road, look for the “Upper Trail” sign on right side of road, park either within that drive or along the roadside. Dogs with leashes are welcome. Rain cancels. June 4th 2011 , Connecticut Trails Day for the Connecticut Forest & Park Association, proved to be a glorious day for a Land Alliance sponsored hike on Brad and Mimi Borden’s property on Swantown Hill Road in North Stonington. Brad Borden, former board member of the North Stonington Citizens Land Alliance, graciously showed us the trails he has created on his 121 acre property. Led by Land Alliance members Bill Hixson and Tim Crandall, we walked through the woods, fields, and across streams . Iced tea and cookies on their patio afterward capped off an enjoyable outing for the dozen or so hikers .
May 28, 2011-Thirteen people joined Hilaire and Kathie Cote for a stroll around their property. The weather brightened up, the lady slippers were in bloom and their peacock put on quite a show for us. Actually he was trying to impress the chickens. We walked along Spalding Pond and next door to the Stephenson's property.

The 2 filmmakers that brought us King Corn have created another humorous film that inspires us to grow food, even in the most unusual places...The music is memorable... it will be hard to NOT hum the Truck Farm song for weeks after.
